Summary: Online pictures don't tell the story. Rustic is fine, but I can't accept unsanitary. Upon searching through cutlery to find something not too dirty to clean, my mind turned to the fact that this cottage was dependent on an outhouse... so if the cutlery was dirty, the last occupants may have also never washed or disinfected their hands after using the outhouse. I then felt the urge to disinfect all knobs, handles etc. (and it usually takes a lot to push a guy to that point) Finding gum stuck to the bottom of the bunk bed didn't help my mindset either. This rental requires some due diligence after occupants depart. It could be a comfy little place, but first the fabric ceiling (Fire & sanitation issue) needs to be properly finished with an appropriate building material, the broken couch needs to be replaced and it would be nice if the cute picture of kids taking a bath in the sink that you have to wash your dishes and food in should really disappear. Things need to be sanitized after guests depart! That is why we pay a cleaning charge. I own timeshare and know how these issues are dealt with in a professional manner. This may not be timeshare or Hotel status, but a thing or two could be learned by how the accommodation industry functions. I can't say that I could be convinced to stay here again. I wish the owners the best and hope they take these comments as a way to better their accommodation business. Oh! and move the microwave to a lower location like the top of the kitchen fridge before someone gets hurt. Sorry, can't recommend this accomodation.

Summary: This cottage had a well-equipped kitchen with dishes and cooking vessels . There was plenty of space for our family of five. It is neatly upkept and organized so we could find what we needed. The appliances are older but they are in good repair. There is a canoe and a beach nearby, and satellite tv for rainy days. There were lots of fun activities including cup and saucer trail, Mississagi lighthouse, Misery Bay Provincial park and more. The water pressure was medium, but hot and the tank kept up with our needs. Neighbours were friendly and helpful. The tap water is not potable, but a drinking water cooler is available. Maniva’s Directions and information were very thorough and clear. The biggest drawback for the rental was the outhouse, however, we were the last family of the season so it was probably at its peak of aroma. We felt that the reasonable price paid for our stay more than compensated for this olfactory barrage. Overall, we had a nice break on Manitoulin
